“Working with Alaska Sea to Shore was an absolute pleasure. I was there filming Bald Eagles for Disney+ and Winstons knowledge of the area, professionalism and we’ll make it work attitude meant we were able to get some incredible footage out in the Channel Islands off the coast of Juneau. I cannot recommend them highly enough, definitely my first port of call when next filming around the area!”

The National Geographic’s “Alaska’s River Race – Incredible Animal Journeys“
We are proud to have been a key partner for the Alaska segment of the critically acclaimed film The Year the Earth Changed. Our vessel, the M/V Athena Rose, played an integral role in capturing some of the stunning humpback whale footage featured in the documentary. It was an incredible experience to contribute to such a powerful project that highlights the beauty and resilience of the natural world.
Our vessel, the M/V Athena Rose, with Captain Winston at the helm had the honor of being featured in the popular TV series Dr. Oakley: Yukon Vet, filmed in Southeast Alaska. We provided essential support for the crew as they ventured into remote areas of Alaska to deliver vital veterinary care. It was a privilege to be a part of this incredible series, showcasing the resilience and dedication of both the animals and the people who care for them.
Responsible Whale Watching – Your Choice Matters
Alaska Sea to Shore is proud to participate in the whale SENSE program.
We are featured here in this new Whale SENSE video.
We are trained volunteers of the Alaska Large Whale Entanglement Response Network. We work with NOAA Fisheries’ Alaska Protected Resources Division to respond to life-threatening entanglements, and, at the same time, help gather valuable information that may reduce the frequency and impact of entanglement in the future.
Whale Trust Partners with Alaska Sea to Shore for Humpback Whale research
Alaska Sea to Shore is proud to collaborate with humpback whale researchers Dr. Meagan Jones and research associate Haley Spears for Haley’s graduate project “reproductive physiology and behavior or humpback whales”. Our vessel, M/V Athena Rose, is the perfect platform for this ongoing research as well as our local knowledge and expertise about the humpback whales in their feeding grounds. We are committed to protecting these majestic creatures and ensuing their futures in the Alaska waters.

“For the past two years, working with Renee and Winston at Alaska Sea to Shore has been an absolute privilege. Their deep knowledge of the waters, whales, and ecosystems of Southeast Alaska has been invaluable to our research, and their ability to customize each trip to maximize our time in the field has made all the difference. Beyond their knowledge and expertise, what truly sets Renee and Winston apart is their passion for what they do! They don’t just take you out on the water – they immerse you in the experience, sharing insights that can only come from years of experience. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and friendship, and we look forward to many more seasons of research together!”
